A person behind the numbers

World-class experience.
Personal attention.

I’m Sam. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and earned my accounting degree at Linfield University. My career began in hands-on accounting for global enterprises, where I learned the processes and financial controls that have guided my work ever since.

Over more than 17 years, I’ve grown into leadership roles across controllership and finance, managed billion-dollar budgets, and built accounting and finance teams from the ground up. Through it all, the foundation has stayed the same: accurate records, consistent processes, and a clear understanding of what the numbers mean.

At Lone Pine, I bring that experience to your business through careful review, financial oversight, and support with technical accounting questions. You get practical guidance and explanations in plain language, so you can understand your numbers and move forward with confidence.

The partnership behind Lone Pine

Different strengths. The same care.

My wife, Kay, also grew up in the Pacific Northwest. We met at Linfield and married after graduating.

Kay brings more than 12 years of hands-on experience in a multinational company, working across accounts payable and receivable, complex reconciliations, corporate credit cards, and journal entries. At Lone Pine, she handles the daily bookkeeping that keeps your records organized and current, with patience, consistency, and a close eye for the details.

Together, we combine Kay’s hands-on bookkeeping experience with my accounting and finance background to give you dependable books and personal attention. We run a small, part-time practice, and you work directly with us, with a scope and communication rhythm agreed up front.

Outside of work, we’re usually on a Central Oregon trail or watching and coaching our kids at a ball field.

A simple place to start

One conversation.
A clear next step.

01

Let’s talk.

Tell me about your business, your books, and where you’d like help.

02

Make a plan.

We’ll agree on the work, pricing, and next steps before we begin.

03

Get moving.

We’ll arrange access to your records and start with the priorities we’ve agreed on.

Before we get started

Good questions.

Do I need to be in Central Oregon?

No. We’re based in Bend and work remotely through video calls, email, and shared accounting tools.

What if my books are several months behind?

That’s a great reason to reach out—no judgment. We’ll review your records, identify what needs attention, and agree on a cleanup plan.

Which accounting software do you work with?

We have experience with QuickBooks, Zoho Books, and Wave, as well as Sage, Oracle, and Acumatica. We adapt well to new tools—at the end of the day, it’s all debits and credits. Tell us what you use, and we’ll discuss the fit.

How much does bookkeeping cost?

Pricing depends on transaction volume, account complexity, and the support you need. You’ll know the scope and cost before we start.

Do you offer tax preparation or payroll?

Not at this time. I’m not a licensed CPA, and our practice doesn’t offer tax preparation or payroll. We keep your records organized so your tax provider has the information they need.
